Survivor Friday- Dorothy and the Gang

Right- we are back to Survivor Friday!

Apologies for the lack of Survivor Friday last week, but with the in-laws staying for the weekend my poor wee miniatures got locked in a cupboard until the visitors had left. To be honest, it was quite a good break, as painting all of the figures for Medieval Mayhem took some serious doing, so it was good to have a day or two to just not paint. It meant that when I started again, it was all the more enjoyable.

Making it even more enjoyable was the fact that I had one last set of miniatures from Studio Miniatures to paint. Not Medieval Mayhem this time, but instead one of my absolute favorites from them:

My sister was (and still is) a devout fan of the Wizard of Oz, the 1939 film with Judy Garland. Growing up I have seen that movie far more times than I care to remember, but it meant that when I saw these figures in the Studio Miniatures range, I had to have them!

So the group is made up of Dorothy, who is a fair bit more punk rock than Judy Garland. Plus she is packing two pistols!

And we have her loyal dog, Toto. Who I couldn't resist painting as a Doberman, rather than a little cairn terrier!

The scarecrow is looking more alive, but still worse for wear. Where is his other boot?

As for the Tin Man, well, you take whatever armour you can get, right? You have to love the fireaxe!

And lastly, the cowardly lion. Mascot suit should protect from a zombie bite right? Although, you will lose a lot of depth perception from that giant head....

So there you have it, another cracking set of Studio Miniatures which I have absolutely loved painting. I took these photos with my new camera, some have come out really well, some really haven't. So apologies for that, I will get better, honest!

Must be about time to do another order with Studio Miniatures to restock....

Terrain- Gamecraft Miniatures 28mm Church

In some of the feedback about Medieval Mayhem I have been receiving so far (have I mentioned recently that you too can buy a copy from skirmishoutbreak.com?) people have been asking where that big church came from!

So, to answer the question, here is a closer look at the church, with the help of the Black Knight!

It comes from Gamecraft Miniatures, and is made from 3mm MDF. I am a big fan of this new booming market of MDF buildings, and Gamecraft is probably my favourite supplier in this space. I own plenty of their 15mm buildings for my moderns gaming, so when I spotted this in their 28mm range, I just knew I had to have it! Allen at Gamecraft is great to deal with, I have only had one minor issue with one of the 30 something buildings I have gotten from him, and he was able to fix it right away. Great customer service in my book.

Right, back to the church. So the building itself is made up of two layers of MDF, which provides both depth and detail to the model. I assembled it in sections (wall by wall), using pegs and rubber bands to keep the pieces together while the glue hardened. There are a number of laser cut details added, the windows are lovely (and Gamecraft sell stained glass to go in it too, which I really should get!) as well as the crosses on the tower. After assembling, I liberally coated the model with Tamiya textured paint to give it that stippled covering, and then gave it a couple of coats of grey.

Little windows

Crosses

Doors

The roof is easily removable, and I added some interior doors. Speaking of the interior, it also comes with some lovely wooden roof framing too.

I must get some pews and other things to put inside, but for now, the church is done. I really need to get more terrain made for my zombie gaming.

Medieval Mayhem Characters

Here are the latest of my completed miniatures for Medieval Mayhem, no doubt some very familiar faces here!

We have Arthur's wife, the lovely Guinevere:

brave, brave) Sir Robin's accompanying minstrels:

Some taunting Frenchmen:

An old man from a bridge, muttering something about birds...

An enchanter:

Sir Noere:

The Knights of Ni

And of course the Black Knight

Studio have created a second Black Knight figure, who can be in various stages of dismemberment

I naturally opted for the completely dismembered look for my Zombie Black Knight!

Right, there you have it, all of the awesome miniatures from Studio Miniatures for Medieval Mayhem! And have I mentioned yet that Medieval Mayhem is available NOW from skirmishoutbreak.com?

No survivor Friday due to in-laws being in town. Will catch up on it Monday....

Medieval Mayhem- Available NOW!

For our 100th post, I have the pleasure of announcing that Medieval Mayhem has arrived!

You can now order your copy of Medieval Mayhem from skirmishoutbreak.com.

It is a 28 page full colour supplement to Skirmish Outbreak. Inside you will find new rules for knights, peasants and squires, rules for armoured zombies, scenarios and of course, the heroes of Medieval Mayhem.

Medieval Mayhem is available in softback print and in PDF formats.

And to tempt you further, did I mention that it has zombies in it?

Including some unlucky Medieval Mayhem employees who got caught by the zombies...

These eight are from Studio Miniatures, made specifically to go with Medieval Mayhem. They are so characterful and dramatic!

And of course, any good theme park needs it's tourists- for Medieval Mayhem I whipped up (another) 40 of the Studio Miniatures plastic zombies....

No excuses not to buy your copy- and of course did I mention that Skirmish Outbreak has $10 off until January?

The last of the Medieval Mayhem miniatures will be up over the weekend, and of course a Survivor Friday too.

Survivor Friday- HAZMAT Team Alpha

Welcome back to another Survivor Friday!

In between furiously painting the lovely Medieval Mayhem miniatures, I managed to put the finishing touches on my HAZMAT team from Recreational Conflict.

I liked the bulky and slightly awkward posing of the Recreational Conflict figures, I think it suits the HAZMAT suit really well.

I think the group of six is made up of some scientists, out looking for the cure, with a few USMC body guards to keep them safe on their scientific expedition. Because after all if anyone can find a cure, people in bright yellow suits are surely our best bet. Right?

Flamethrower!

More Medieval Mayhem miniatures over the weekend- Knights of Ni! Taunting Frenchmen! And more!

Medieval Mayhem miniatures- Squires!

Right, so following on from the knights last week, this week we have their trusty squires!

These miniatures come from Studio Miniatures, and they are really cleverly detailed, the baggage loads they carry have lots of little quirky things, which really add to the character of the models. I have again tried to stay true (ish) to the original characters, but have taken a fair bit of artistic license- especially with the baggage loads!

Anyway on to the pictures...

King Arthur's Squire

Sir Bedevere's Squire

Sir Lancelot's Squire

Sir Galahad's Squire

Sir Bors' Squire

Sir Robin's Squire

And the whole group together

Next up? More miniatures, and some terrain!
